Freezer Foods are super healthy for pets!

Pet owners: have you heard the term “BARF”? This acronym stands for Bones And Raw Food, and is a feeding method that is highly recommended by many veterinarians and pet care professionals. This diet is supposed to mimic how an animal would consume food in the wild, providing pets with a diet that closely resembles their natural eating habits. Raw food formulas are species-appropriate, and highly digestible, which allows for easy absorption of essential nutrients.

Believe it or not, raw foods are easy to feed! Many come ready-to-serve, some with a small amount of water, bone broth, or goat milk added. This offers pets extra hydration compared to dry diets, which is very beneficial in our hot, humid climate. Pets love the added flavor of goat milk or broth!

Leo&Lucky’s carries a wide selection of raw foods in our freezer case. Our freezer foods contain organic produce and humanely-raised, edible-grade meats that are antibiotic- and steroid-free, with no added hormones. The combination of muscle and organ meat offers a variety of vitamins and nutrients. Here are some examples of ingredients found in our freezer foods:

  • Muscle meat, raw meaty bones, and organ meat
  • Apples, blueberries, broccoli, carrots, celery, cilantro, cranberries, ginger
  • Apple cider vinegar, coconut oil, kelp powder, fish oil, pumpkin seeds

We also offer freezer treats and raw bones. Dogs and cats have a set of solid molars and extremely strong jaws that enable them to crush and chew raw meaty bones such as necks, backs, wings, ribs and carcasses. Recreational bones offer an excellent method for dogs to exercise their jaws, massage their gums and clean their teeth while consuming amino and essential fatty acids that promote a superior level of health.

We know this style of feeding is new to many of our customers, and we are always happy to talk pet nutrition! Please ask any of our knowledgeable employees for advice on what foods to feed, how to transition foods from one style of feeding to another, and any other questions or concerns you have regarding your pets. As always, please check with your veterinarian before switching your pet’s diet.
