Exploring Raw Food for Pets

raw bones

Have you ever wondered if your pet is secretly dreaming of hunting like their wild ancestors when their feet are twitching in their sleep? Enter the raw diet — a way to feed pets that has been widely adopted thanks to its wonderful benefits, such as:

  • Gorgeous Coats and Skin – Raw diets can lead to shinier coats and healthier skin; it’ll be like your pet has a built-in beauty regime!
  • More Zing in Their Step –Pets on raw diets often have extra energy… look out! Your dog might be bouncing off the walls, and your cat might become a ninja.
  • Smaller, Smell-Free Poops – Raw-fed pets typically produce smaller, less smelly poops. Your backyard (or litter box area!) will thank you.
  • Sparkling Teeth – Chewing raw food helps keep teeth clean and strong.

Most pet parents are used to feeding kibble, and switching to a new method may bring up a few questions along the way. We are here to help at Leo&Lucky’s! Ask us any time in store for ways to improve your pet’s diet. It’s easier than you think! In fact, raw food can simply be incorporated into a mostly kibble diet; it doesn’t have to be all or nothing. Any amount of raw food is a step in the right direction for your pets’ diet (no bones about it!) Here are 3 easy and cost-efficient ways to add raw:

Try a topper

As the name suggests, right on top of your pet’s usual kibble, you can add freeze dried raw nuggets, frozen raw toppers and more; we’ve got lots of options!

Pick up items that pack the biggest punch

By prioritizing key components such as raw meaty bones, organ meats, and select raw vegetables, you can introduce essential nutrients that may be lacking in processed pet foods, and increase the amount of hydration your pets get at a meal. Ask us in store for raw items that will add the most good to your pets’ repertoire.

Add some hydration with raw goat milk

Raw goat milk is straight from a goat and is not pasteurized. During the pasteurization process, good gut bacteria (probiotics) are “cooked” out of the milk—which is why the raw form is so beneficial! As with pet-specific bone broth, you can thaw and re-freeze goat milk to give your pet a delicious treat. Just freeze thawed goat milk in an ice cube tray and serve it to your pet as a treat. Yum!

Remember, every little bit of raw goodness you provide contributes to your pet’s overall well-being and adds hydration to their diet — a very important component in tropical climates like ours! See you soon at Leo&Lucky’s!
