What kind of cat litter is best?

There is no one right answer to this question – the best kind of cat litter is the one that your cat likes using, and that you are happy with! The litters we offer at Leo&Lucky’s are carefully selected with pet health, environmental health, and price in mind.

We have litters to suit all budgets and kitty families. Believe it or not, litter boxes should not be stinky! Please ask in store if you are experiencing a smelly litter box; we can recommend product(s) that will work great for your household.

Some common reasons why you may be experiencing litter box issues:

Location and privacy are key. Try putting the litter box someplace quieter and safer. Maybe that downstairs or little-used bathroom, or a quiet corner in the laundry room. Try a covered litter box if you can’t relocate the litter box itself.

Does every cat in your house have its own litter box? In a multiple cat household, if someone is missing the litter box, that could be the issue. Veterinarians that have a strong cat focus suggest one more litter box than the number of cats in your household.

Cats can be very finicky about their litter. From recycled paper pellets, to traditional clay based litters, pine shavings, and silica based sand like litters, there is a litter to please most cats. There’s even cat litter with a special additive that’s attractive to the cat looking for a spot. Ask us about different litters that may entice your cat to eliminate in the right place.

With litter boxes, cleanliness is next to godliness. Thousands of years ago cats were worshiped as gods. They haven’t forgotten! Keep the litter box as clean as possible. For some cats, that might mean a self-cleaning motorized version.

If all else fails, consider that your cat might have a urinary tract infection or other problem, and visit your vet.
