Show your pet how much you love them this Valentine’s Day and beyond

Our pets hold such a special place in our heart and are an important part of our family. Pets provide us emotional fulfillment, a furry shoulder to cry on or celebrate with, a great motivation to get our daily exercise, and so much more. We know our pets love us, and happily, there are ways we can show them our love in return.

Provide them mental stimulation

Every pet requires something to do during the day, but every pet’s needs are different. Some pets, like working dogs or pets with anxiety, need plenty of activity as well as a high level of mental stimulation. More energetic pets can benefit from activities like:

  • Structured training sessions
  • Multiple walks per day
  • Off-leash play time in the backyard or dog park
  • Pet day care
  • Agility training
  • Flyball

Other, more sedentary pets, like some cats or non-sporting companion dogs, might need a little more incentive to be active. Treat-dispensing toys are often a favorite of pets who would otherwise sit around most of the day. The more they push the treat around or manipulate it, the more rewards they get. Try it with small ice cubes or low calorie treats.

Remember, the more active a pet is during the day, the more likely they are to be too tired to find more “creative” things to do. It’s a win/win.

Feed them a balanced diet

One of the best ways to show your pet love is to feed them a balanced, nutritional, hydrating diet. A high-quality diet doesn’t have to break the bank. If you feed kibble, consider rotating flavors, or adding a frozen or freeze-dried topper for some moisture and variety. Pouring goat milk or pet-specific bone broth on top of kibble can provide a treat as well as the extra hydration our pets need in Florida.

Offering a variety of chews, treats, no-hide, and pet grass in addition to a variable diet is a good idea. We have extensive information on feeding on our blog, or feel free to give us a call or come in with any questions.

Celebrate them

Do you know when your pet’s birthday is? Maybe not if you adopted them (and thank you for rescuing!) If you don’t know their birthday, (or even if you do!) you can celebrate their “Gotcha Day,” which is the day you rescued them. We have all kinds of pet-friendly birthday treats, toys, and outfits in the store, and if you let us know your pet’s birthday or gotcha day, you’ll get a special birthday rewards coupon to celebrate them. Bring them in on their birthday for extra spoiling from our entire staff.

See you soon in store!
