5 Festive Pet-Friendly Houseplants

Unbeknownst to many parents of furry, feathery, or scaly kiddos, there are a handful of popular holiday houseplants that can be dangerous to pets. Some common harmful houseplants include: pine tree, amaryllis, holly, and mistletoe; and these are just some “seasonal” varieties. Pet owners should check before bringing any household plant into their home, as many common houseplants are not good for pets (should a pet ingest a toxic plant, act quickly by taking them to the veterinarian immediately for treatment).

The good news is that there are beautiful, easy-to-care-for houseplants that are completely safe for your pet to be around; perfect for the holidays and beyond. Here are some options that might be winners for your holiday happenings:

  1. Large Majesty Palm – super fun to decorate with ornaments for the holidays, and a great “Florida” plant! Create your own tropical Charlie Brown tree with this cheerful palm.
  2. Pink Polka Dot Plant – this jazzy plant is brightly colored and feels super festive adorned with some plant-safe LED fairy lights. Enjoy its beautiful leaves year-round.
  3. Silver Vase Bromeliad – when this variety blooms, it is a sight to see! Festive pops of color bring a bright and cheerful vibe to the household.
  4. Moth Orchid – Any orchid is a beautiful choice for anyone who loves the look of fresh-cut flowers but wants something longer-lasting. Orchids require special care, but can be a great choice for the novice plant owner.
  5. Holiday Cactus – A classic choice for a holiday gift, these cactuses are happily pet-friendly. You can select varieties that should bloom on their respective holidays: Christmas cactuses are probably the most well-known, but there are Thanksgiving varieties, too!

See you in store for all of your pet’s holiday (and general!) needs. We look forward to seeing you and thank you, as always, for continuing to vote Leo&Lucky’s as Parrish’s number one pet store!
